The City Council of Blanes, in the Catalonia province of Girona, in expecting the city to grow by 20.000 people over the next thirty years.
That would bring the beach resort’s total population to 60.000.
The City Council recently presented a provisional draft of the new general plan of the city.
The plan, which has not been updated since 1981, calls for a reduction in the number of dwellings that can be built per hectare.
Carles Gibert, councilman for Urban Development, says the council proposes to set the limit at 38 instead of the current 75 houses per hectare.
The plan also calls for the creation of a new, 10 hectare urban park.
